- Review key business processes and ways-of-working, including flowcharts, SIPOC frameworks and interactions.
- Understand the people and organization: roles and responsibilities, governance- and social structures, culture and tacit knowledge distribution.
- Overview system application landscape and interfaces.
- Identify key documents and other sources of explicit knowledge, including supporting systems, procedures, governance and user manuals.
- Overview of key master-, transactional-, and meta data assets

Create knowledge map
- A knowledge map contains all the knowledge- and data assets, systems, key documents, -people and -processes, as well as the links between them, creating a graph structure.
- It allows to navigate quickly to get to the information, person or system you need.
- It enables identifying gaps and weaknesses in the knowledge and data asset inventory.

Define goals
- Strategic goals: where does you organization needs to be in 5 year, align with overall strategy, include externalities such as competition and trends.
- Tactical goals: how to organize knowledge and data management within your organization.
- Operational goals: what gap-closing initiatives need to start tomorrow
